St. Florence Community Welcomes Our New Pastoral Administrator

A Letter to the St.Florence Community from Deacon Terry Waiss,

I know there have been some rumors going around already, so it is with a “heavy heart” that I am announcing that Fr. Charles Cummins will no longer be the Pastoral Administrator at St. Florence Church.  He will continue his ministry at the Newman Center.  As of this week, Fr. Richard Hunt, S.J., will be our new Administrator.  Fr. Cummins will introduce him and Con-celebrate Mass with him this weekend, Sept. 15/16th.  Please give Fr. Hunt a warm welcome and remember that we may all visit Fr. Cummins at the Newman Center.  Although this is an abrupt announcement from the Diocese, please regard this as a positive “work load reduction” for Fr. Chuck–he is 75 yrs old (retirement age for healthy priest in the SLC Diocese) and 6 Masses per weekend, plus Mass every day at the Newman Center in addition to our Tuesday night Mass, filling in for other priests with health issues, Confessions in Logan, weddings, funerals, all the driving in the canyon in winter, the list goes on and on…..are beginning to wear on him, but he is honored and delighted to continue his ministry at his “first love”–the Newman Center (the students there help keep him young!).  Following is a message from Msgr. Bircumshaw, Vicar General of the Diocese of SLC:

“…and on a positive note, I would like to welcome Father Richard Hunt, S.J., a priest of the Society of Jesus from the New Youk Provincve, who arriveed a few days ago and will be appointed Administrator of St. Florence Mission in Huntsville, with residfence at St. Joseph Parish in Ogden.  Fr. Richard is of “retirement age,” but happy to continue ministering part time.  Please make Father Richard Hunt welcome, and as I said, he will be in residence at St. Joseph’s Parish, Ogden.”
